For anyone whose computer will allow it, there are some livestreams, of varying quality: www.ustream.tv/dangerbeardAnd this works for me. It's fantastic quality. A bit more technical, but it's not that hard: 1. Go to www.xroxy.com/pr0xylist.htm (instead of 0 type o in address pr0xylist.htm) find a pr0xy with an IP address and a Port from country you wanna simulate you are from. (I use 83.231.136.9 and Port 3128) 2. In Internet Explorer go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings/ 3. Check use of Pr0xy server and apply the IP address and number of the Port you found in step 1. 4. Press OK twice and you are ready to go. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7443880.stm

Wow, that works exactly as described. Thanks, rum! I just watched a couple games of Murray/Gulbis. Unfortunately, the proxy interferes with my ability to connect to internal websites, so I have to turn it off if I want to do work. Hmm, tough decision.

Thanks rum! Although it's a mixed blessing, because this may negatively affect my ability to geat ahead on work before my customary Wimby-related decrease in concentration. ETA: Is it me, or does Murray look like Gulbis' evil twin? I have played tennis off an on since I was about 10. When i was a kid I just sort of enjoyed whacking the ball, and although I took lessons here and there, I was never very serious about it. In the past 4 or so years I have become very serious mostly because I found some to play with regularly (it helps when you live together . Now I play at least twice a week when it's warm, and once a week in the winter as long as I can justify paying the expensive court fees. Also in the past year and a half I have been participating in a league at the 3.0 level. I'm feeling like I could make the jump up to 3.5, and have been contemplating taking lessons. I've been kind of rabid about it lately.

I can do the dangerbeard, but I'd get in huge trubs for changing my proxy. Thanks!
ETA: I think Murray looks like his own evil twin. Yikes. I am not a big AM fan. I wouldn't mind seeing him win, I just don't like looking at him.
ETA2: As I said to someone earlier, I have the hand/eye coordination of a paraplegic blind woman. My tennis sucks. I wouldn't torture people with it. My badminton is only slightly better. Back in the ApocaLipGloss years, I was a cheerleader. Yeah, I was THAT girl. I apologize. Now I'm big into perennial flower gardening.

Nadal/Nishikori was a good match. Nishikori played like a top 20 player and he looks very promising. I think he's already better than any of the young American players (Querry, Young, um...), and Japan may have its first top 10 player in a couple of years.

Speaking of Young, and going back to the Tennis:Unstrung film, I was talking to a co-worker who interviewed James Blake a while back (and yes, he told James's brother that the J-Block was hurting James in terms of public opinion) and they talked about Young. Turns out James asked Donald's camp if he could talk to Donald and go over what he could expect in the world of professional tennis and maybe help him out a bit. Donald's people (read: parents) refused! How could they be so short-sighted? James Blake wants to help you out? Maybe mentor you a bit? Say YES! Young's parents are like women's tennis parents bad.

I believe that. Mainly because a few years back Rafael Nadal's family/camp invited Donald Young to Mallorca to practice with him on clay. Donald's 'people' (i.e. family) refused that offer as well. Heck, he's already a step behind on clay because he's American, he needs all the help he can get! Training with the King of Clay certainly wouldn't hurt him any. And getting to stay in Mallorca? Hell, that's reason enough to accept!

Yeah, I read about Young refusing Nadal's offer as well. It's just mind-boggling. There are so many players who would kill for a chance to train with Nadal.
Tipsy is killing Djokovic right now. To be fair, Djokovic is playing some of the worst tennis I've ever seen from him, but Tipsy is playing well.

Since we're discussing Blake and Tipsy in such close proximity, I'd like to mention that, as much as I dig Tipsy, I find it unfair that people criticize James for wearing his shorts too big, and nobody ever makes a comment about those culottes that Tipsy always seems to be wearing. I love him, but I'm just saying.
Also, I've heard a lot about how much Donald has been sequestered by his people. I hope it pays off for him, but I wonder what the upside could be to turning down a chance to train with the best clay-courter in the game. It's especially a shame because it seems like, with the proper guidance, Young's game could translate very well onto clay in much the same way Davydenko's does.

From the 'who writes these things?' file: I just got an email from ATP Insider with the following subject line: Borg Reveals No. 1 Rankingwhich ends up being this Q&A: Q. You said you feel that Djokovic will be the next No. 1 player. Do you think he has a better chance of taking over that spot than Nadal does? BJORN BORG: No, I said he will be a No. 1 player. Nadal might be before him, though. But I think after Roger, it's going to be Nadal or Djokovic, and they can play all kind of surfaces. It's going to be interesting, Wimbledon and US Open. Djokovic is playing really good on the grass, too. But I think the end of this year Roger will be the No. 1 player, and then next year we see a new No. 1 player. So what you're trying to say is that the next #1 will be either the current #2 or the current #3. Somehow I don't see that as breaking news or much af a "reveal," ATP.

I live in suburban Atlanta (homebase for Donald Young) and have heard lots of horror stories about the Young camp which as everyone has pointed out consists of his parents. Certain things that they have done I can sympathize with but there are a host of things that I cannot get my mind around. I'm hopeful that things will turn out well for him but I have my reservations. As lt pointed out this is a familiar scenario in the WTA... Played a little tennis as youngster but it was cost prohibitive in NYC with two siblings who also wanted court time. Am now hoping to spend any tennis $ on my own growing brood. For purely selfish reasons so that I have someone to play with since my husband is not at all interested My oldest is 5, so as in most things she'll be the guinea pig. I'm hopeful that she'll love it but am also scared b/c I have no idea how we'll pay for equipment/court time/ lessons for our small army of Nolans!

I actually have no excuse to avoid playing tennis (other than my severe dislike of running), as tikiboy plays several times a week and is pretty good. All I ever had was a vicious two-handed backhand. It wasn't a bad shot...but the lack of foot speed, footwork, forehand, and serve kind of did me in. To put it mildly.
So what's the word on Wimbledon broadcasts? Please don't tell me TTC or, worse, HBO. I'm not pretty when I cry.
