I believe they work on the ranking as were 6 weeks before the tournaments, i.e. they're working with 6 weeks in hand. But then Wimbledon especially likes to fiddle with the seeds as they see fit, with regards to grass court history. I doubt that extends to the players below seeding though.

I just tried buying grounds passes for the USO and there aren't any available. Either the ticket brokers snatched em all up or them suckers just sold like hotcakes. According to this article, ticket sales are far beyond what they were last year, setting records aplenty. For my part, on the day tix went on sale, I tried buying for the Friday day session before the Labor Day weekend - Armstrong, Ashe, grounds passes, 4 tickets, 2 tickets, one ticket, it didn't matter: all sold out. I ended up getting the Monday after Kid's Day, and even then I ended up getting 2 tix in the stadium and 2 grounds passes because there weren't 4 together in any of the seated venues. Crazy!

I think it's like main draw rankings. Your ranking 6 weeks prior to the draw being made is the ranking used.

WARNING...NAKED TENNIS PLAYER AHEAD.... *ahem* Anyway, Fernando Verdasco is just the latest Spaniard to pose nude. Must be a right of passage for those pretty Spaniards...not that I'm complaining, mind you. Without further ado, I give you: Nekkid Nando

Well I'm counting. Robredo, Lopez and now Verdasco. I like these Spanish tennis player traditions!

Moya posed nude back in the day, and I remember Juan Carlos Ferrero being naked in a bathtub. More subtle, that one, but still nekkid. ETA: Here's Carlos in his younger days: i26.tinypic.com/7262h0.jpg

Thanks to lt, I got advance info this year, and decided to join the USTA even though I haven't played in quite awhile. It doesn't cost much, and I was able to get a day ticket for Ashe for the Friday before Labor Day some time ago. I also bought the neat Labor Day package that gives you Friday Night through Monday Night of the Holiday weekend. I'm looking forward to it since I haven't gone to the actual tournament in ages, just to practice sessions to photograph the players. Surprisingly, or not, you can buy the Labor Day and I guess the other packages without being a member. At least that's what the guy on the phone told me when I tried to give him my membership number

This is the first year we are going with only grounds passes at USO. We're in Thursday and Friday before Labor Day. We've found that by Sunday the lower courts are starting to fill up with juniors (not that there's anything wrong with that) and we're hoping for good things on Thursday, either in the grandstand (our fav) or on the lower courts.
I was counting down to the USTA presale, and logged on at the first available minute to get them. It's the first year we were successful getting grounds. We've sworn off Ashe, and IMHO there is nothing more uncomfortable than an Armstrong seat. I'm 5'7 and I can't fit my knees, much less my 6'4 hubby.

Heh, ilsa, I'm about your height. But for me it will all depend on A)who's playing and B) how good the match is. If there's a snore inducing contest in the stadium I will definitely be wandering around.
I do like the "Holiday Plan" since you don't have to miss any work days (though I work Friday nights so I am taking one day off).

Damn, no chance for me to attend the USO this year, although I will be back east at the time.
Out of curiosity, since a few people have mentioned it, does everyone here play tennis except me? I played in a half-assed fashion for a while, never tournaments or anything. I was a competitive swimmer in junior high/high school, and still avoid any form of exercise that involves running. I feel like the only non-tennis player here!

tiki I used to have a really nice tennis instructor who would teach me at my own pace, such as it was, but it got too expensive and I never really had a person to hit with. I did enjoy it though. Still wondering where to find a cheap court in the city.
I did enjoy hitting the one handed backhand. It was better than my forehand. I haven't played in quite awhile as I said but enjoy watching just as much.

I play a ton. I'm on a USTA 3.5 career team in the winter and in a local league in the summer. Our team plays matches on Sunday with roundrobin practice on Tuesday nights and I take a 4-person clinic every Satruday morning. I also played WTT with hubby every other Friday night but had to cut that out of the schedule. Yeah, it can be expensive, but as hobbies go it's got a lot of plusses. And we don't have kids so the time investment is easier that it might be for others.

That was wonderful. I love him more than ever.
Why, I'm forever in your debt. That was more wonderful than the Rafa video. I think I'm moving to Spain where the boys like to get nekkid.
Yeah! Glad I was good for something. It seems I'm overlapping with a few people here--would love to sit at some back court and jaw in person about a match. I'm going (first week:) Monday day, Monday night, Thursday day, Friday day (second week:) Wednesday day and Saturday day (men's semis). If you want to get into Ashe but only have a grounds pass it is super easy. Go to the top promenade and go up the stairs to the top level--there are no guards in front of those stairs and you can sit wherever you want (well, in my world you can sit wherever you want). For the people who missed out on tickets--try closer to the event. They release tickets back into the system in July/August.
Oh! Playing tennis. I've played forever and ever and I'm still pretty bad. I just don't play enough. My complex has a tennis court but I haven't found anyone to play with (that is an invitation to the NYC/NJ-area people).

Tiki - I play tennis too. Right now I have one or two semi-private lessons each week (two different teachers) along with a group lesson once per week. I play in two mixed doubles leagues and a ladies' singles league. I also usually try to get together once a week with someone just to hit for an hour or two. Right now I play 5 or 6 days per week. In the winter it is only 1 or 2 days as it is indoors and very expensive.
I mentioned this in the last thread but it was closed right after - Lee Carter, who practices at my club is going to the para olympics in Beijing. He is the number one ranked wheelchair tennis player in Canada. I've watched him practice numerous times and he is just incredible. If I was on the other side of the net when he hits I would probably just duck and pray the ball didn't hit me.

Anyone have a live score site that isn't protennislive? That one isn't working for me...
