Thanks, lizm! I do have a wicked soft spot for Bode (ooh, look at my New England busting out) -- and not just because I find him ridiculously hot. It's nice to see people do well and still retain their individuality.
So how about that ice dancing? The costumes are insane! I don't usually pay attention, but I have a Winter Olympic-maniac friend who's been here every night. Holy shit, ice dancers! It's like a college acid flashback or something.
So is anyone watching other than me and lizm (and sometimes f'clese)? Not that we're having any problems with our little clique! ;D

I got sucked into the figure skating, but the ice dancing is too much. Some of the costumes are so nuts, that it feels like someone's playing a joke on me when I try to watch it. I saw a picture of the aborigine costumes one of the pairs was wearing, and I just couldn't do it. I like the alpine events and the speed skating the most. The short track speed skating is actually really tense and interesting. And you're right, I'm watching off and on.

I'm an avid olympic watcher and have spent way too much time chatting about it w/ my few like minded friends. I didn't even realize you all were here!
Tiki, I know you are thrilled for Bode. The redemption song coverage is too much for me to stomach but that's hardly his fault.
Fala, I'm sorry you bailed on ice dancing, it's among my faves to watch. The Russian couple's OD was all kinds of awful but I lapped it up in a car crash kind of way.
I really feel for the Korean super star Yu-Na, so much pressure, so many expectations. I adore Mirai Nagasu and Rachel Flatt has kind of won me over, Big Love hair and all, so I hope she has a decent showing.

I remember watching it more when I was a kid, but not so much lately. I don't remember the get-ups being quite that cuckoo back then. Figure skating in general can be interesting at the Olympics, although I never really follow it otherwise. I remember the whole Debbie Thomas/Katarina Witt dueling Carmens thing, and of course Nancy/Tonya transcended the sport for obvious reasons. I'll probably catch some of the women's event.

I try to ignore all that shit. I just want to watch him ski, and hear his quick interviews. The media has been so fucking ridiculous in these games, between him and Vonn and Ohno. I'm trying to imagine how they would cover my day:
"We heard Tiki has a hangnail! Do you think she'll be able to hold a pen? It's going to be mighty difficult to edit that forty-page paper, but she can do it! She'll teach those other editors a thing or two about working through pain!"

...Well, a migraine knocked me out for a while there, but I'm back. I feel like I missed a lot -- the bitchfest in women's skiing, the fact that women's figure skating wraps up tonight -- I can't remember what else. It's that kind of day!
Anyone still watching?

Fuck the Olympics...on opening day, Mark Buehrle just made the freakin' play of the year!

Ah, a thread where I can just talk to myself...so satisfying! Haha.
Anyway: MLB All Star Game tonight -- I don't care all that much, but it seemed like a good excuse to try out a recipe for New Zealand Sangria (white wine, limes, kiwi, vodka, and ginger ale). Here's to summer!
