Nobody's here? Vera's playing well so far.
We'll see if it will be enough.

Mary finally shut the fuck up! Praise the Lord.
Don't start crying Vera, please.

Good quality play, but not a lot of drama. Vera has enough to stay close, but mot enough to make something happen for herself. Serena's playing better than she was in the semi, and unless her level goes down, it will be over in 2.

This match is going exactly as expected. Vera is playing well but she's just not up to Serena's level. I had hoped for something a little more exciting. Still a good match though.

I just finished watching the Murray/Nadal match and I learned the following things: 1. Brad Gilbert says that Rafa is right handed and plays left handed. I don't understand why one of the commentators haven't told us this before. I'd heard this a while ago. Can't remember when/how but it was in reference to why he can generate so much power with his backhand, and someone pointed out that as a natural rightie he doesn't just use his right hand to stabilize the racquet but he can also generate power with it. I actually came here to say that I finally get up to watch some tennis this tournament, and I seriously want to smack Mary Carillo. And I still have some residual affection from her years in the booth with Fred and Cliff, so I don't normally want to smack her. But seriously, Mary? Let Serena WIN first, then see if she wins at the USO...then maybe wait until after she wins at the Australian Open to declare that she could have 18 GS titles by the end of next year. Ya know? Winning one match today doesn't put her anywhere NEAR close to Steffi Graf no matter how much you talk about it or how somber you are when you say it.

Serena really should have won the French. Vera's done well to stay with her in the 1st set but this is what I expected of this match. Now Serena's within one of Venus and that sucks. I mean she totally deserved to win but Wimbledon always kind of feels like Venus's house. Oh well.

I've always liked Vera, but she's winning me over even more. I knew her ankle injury was serious, but I had no idea she was questioning whether shed ever play again. It's good to hear Serena giving her such compliments too. I hope Vera continues to play well. Serena really showed why she number one. I'm happy she's playing so well. Again, not a huge amount of drama today, but it was definitely because Serena dominated with good play rather than because Vera cracked.

Awww, Serena made me tear up a little with the Venus-lending-her-a-necklace story. Don't know why, just the big-sisterness of it all. My little sister drives me bonkers but I'd lend her a necklace in the same situation--and then get exasperated when I never got it back.
I'm glad I watched the first set because that was pretty tight until that break. I had to leave for about 10 minutes at the beginning of the second and when I got back it was 5-1 so I'm guessing there wasn't too much to that one.
Vera's speech was really good. Hope she has some fun sexy-time with her model/coach/hitting partner. That'll cheer her up.
I cannot believe we all forgot about this but: NO SUE MOTT!!!!! She wasn't here! Was it because with Fowler at the World Cup they figured it wouldn't make sense for her to "spar" with Hannah? Well, if so. . . hmmmm, which is worse? No Chris Fowler or having to put up with Sue Mott? That might be a draw.
Speaking of which is worse: Mary berating Serena for not playing tennis like she thinks she should or Mary falling over herself in love with Serena? They're both incredibly annoying to listen to.

The presentation was shown here and the bam! coverage just ended and now there is some documentary about weather on.

I'd rather watch weather than NBC's announced feature about "Federer's legacy."
Way to stick the knife into Roger and his fans NBC. I hope he comes back and makes you look like the fools you are.
Congrats to Serena. I totally expected it but well played.

I know. Who do they think wants to watch that?
Heh, even Serena is over Mary's over-the-topness. "Oh, Mary. . . " *eyeroll* was a great response to Mary's "You're two years away from getting to Steffi Graf's 22 Grand Slam record."

Yes, if Serena just won her 13th, how is she going to win 9 more slams in two years? That would be a neat trick.
Vera should give Mary some statistics lessons.

We were talking about that here too. It's just a little ridiculous. I laughed watching Serena dance and skip back up the steps into the clubhouse. She's so excited.

This is why I love live feeds. Watching the behind the scenes stuff is great. Really loved that Serena signed a few autographs at the entrance. NBC took their own sweet time in showing stuff.
Mary is ridiculous. It's like a complete 180. I'm glad Serena rolled her eyes at her because c'mon! It's nice to see Serena maturing, finally. I liked her speech more than usual and Vera's was just great.
Now for tomorrow's match I hope it's competitive and goes 5 sets and I don't care who wins. I'm happy either way.

Yeah, I don't want to see that. Why can't they show the men's doubles which is under way?
