I missed it all due to work but was Venus rusty? I have to think that the lack of match play could have cost her during the tight points, but as I'm just speculating I don't know of course. I'm sorry she lost, I like Kim but this seemed like a great chance for Venus to make a comeback.
Oh well. I don't know which I want to win either now. Vera would be a story though.

I went back and watched some more of Vera's match, and I have to say I was impressed by her. She played a very smart match. Nice deep solid shots, and good offense when she had the opportunity to finish a point. If she plays like that tomorrow, she has a chance to win. That's not to say that Kim's not the favorite, but I would not be stunned to see Vera win.
I think Venus had a couple lapses of attention that gave Kim all she needed in such a close match to fight back and win. I'm not even talking about Venus' usual lapses into error-strewn play, I'm talking about moments where she was caught looking or flat-footed that kept her from running down shots that she could otherwise have gotten. That's not to say that Kim only won because of her, it's just that on a few key points where Venus at least had the opportunity to extend the rally by running down a well-hit shot by Kim, she looked like she was surprised that the point wasn't already over.

Thanks tiki. It's unsurprisingly easy to find pictures of Murray looking like an insane old woman.
ETA - All set to watch the semis this morning. Just announced again "Kim hasn't lost here since 2003" Well you know what, I haven't lost at the US Open either. That fact that I've never played is apparently irrelevant.

Ha, breezy!
ETA that I went back and read lt's Verdasco analysis - thanks!!! I think I get it, and it helps to know what you find appealing, ...but it certainly doesn't win him any majors!
Hoping for a great women's final tonight - anyone read that SI article about the 15-yr drought?

Stupid proboards not loading! Grrr.
I am so sick of listening to John and Dick. They are boring the crap out of me.

I read the article on how Super Saturday doesn't live up to its billing anymore. I kind of hate Super Saturday.

Yeah, the outcome of this match has felt like a fait accompli from pretty early on. I like Youzhny, but he didn't bring much fire today.

I actually hope Roger beats Djoker fast so he's not at a disadvantage tomorrow. Sorry drama lovers.

It's Djokovic. He can lose bagel, bagel, breadstick and still be a drama queen.

Yeah I do hope this is a more interesting match (with Fed winning of course!), but I also think Rafa is a steamroller at this point, pretty much unstoppable. I'll be shocked if he doesn't win the tourny and complete his career GS.
I'm for Kim in the women's final, but I must admit that Vera is proving herself, 2 GS finals in a row, I really can't discount her. Eh, she's just so blah to me - well when she's not pitching a fit that is! All credit to her that she seems to have gotten that under control, and has had great results since then - I'm willing to concede she's the real deal in terms of quality, but I just can't rank her up with those I think are the true great players. Maybe that will change?

The Djokovics own a pizzeria/pancake restaurant? That's an odd combo . . .

Enric Molina seems to get more grief than any other chair umpire. Is he bad or something?
