The first men's seed is out - Cilic. Straight sets too.

I had in my bracket one unseeded men's player to the second week - Montanes - and I thought I was going to pay for that since he hasn't played especially well this clay season. But gimpy Hewitt was only here to prepare for Halle and I had a hunch Cilic would lose to this guy. I'm liking my chances with that one - especially since he didn't have to deal with either.
So was Gulbis as useless as that score indicates?

I didn't see it, but past history wold point to yes. He's not the type to try to grind it out when it's not going well. He's more of a petulant swing-for-the-fences type.
I was a little worried that Bethanie M-A was going down quick, but she was able to turn it around, apparently. I didn't get to see the end because TC's coverage window ended. I have her going pretty far, and it wasn't a good start for her.
The commentators have been talking about the new Babolat balls that they are using this year, and apparently they've been very lively and light, and also showing a lot of action when they're topspun, so I'm wondering what affect this will have on Rafa's game. as well as Stosur or some of the other heavy topspin players.
ETA: Don't forget that espn3.com has simultaneous coverage on three courts.

On the Roland Garros site, they're asking players "which player you'd pick" for a series of tasks. Tommy Haas is, well, as boring as usual. Jurgen Melzer, however, is rather amusing. Wanting to hit on girls with Verdasco because he's "not afraid of the competition" and Isner to protect him in a forest? This could be good with the right player. Though neither wants to train with Ivo, which is funny.

Tennischannel.com also has livefeeds. Apparently they're showing 5 courts to espn's 3.

Do you use words professionally, falafaclese? I ask because I love your use of the vocab.
Why do you think that is? The serve? Flatulence?

Petulant flatulence. Or flatulent petulance?

Anyone watching Feli/Fed? Just got in to the office and Feli gets broken. I'm such bad luck for the guy. I know Delpo and Djokovic have won today, I'll have to take a good look at the scores after this match.
Feli looks slimmer in the trunk area (not that he needed it) and his back is still all taped up. And, ruh roh, he's muttering to the sky. Never good.
btw: thanks, falafaclese, for the info on TTC feeds. I cannot access ESPN3 but TTC feeds are working fine.

I'm watching, lt, but feeling pretty good about how things are progressing. :-)
Whenever these two play in a slam I always remember that "hair porn" promo they showed before they played a night match at the US Open. Anyone else remember that? It was the year Roger was wearing black IIRC.

Holy. . . Berdych is out!?! Yikes to my pool--he had been playing so well this clay season. Loved Feli's face when they showed the score during the changeover.
On the TTC feed you can pull other matches into the Picture in Picture window so you can switch back and forth and necessary. Nice.

Wow. My pool is apparently the kiss of death. What you are to Feli by watching, lt, I am to players by selecting them in the pool! My inability to separate fact from wishful thinking in that process reminds me why I abandoned journalism. Yay, Roger. My favorite word is 'stalwart' (since we're indeed a literary group!) and though I didn't get to watch any, I imagine that's how he was against the sourpuss.... (/wink) Thinking what I can bribe you with, harry, to find us a clip of that promo! You have the best memory!

Watched the last set of Berdych's match and it was weird seeing him play so passively in the fifth set. You'd think it was errors that led to Robert coming back from two-sets-to-none but not really the case here. When Tomas' first serve goes to hell, his brain clicks off as well and he forgets he should be attacking.

It seems like aggressive, sharp hitters (BMS and Marion B) may having a little bit of a struggle finding their range with these new balls. Marion had a rough start today much like Bethanie had yesterday, but was able to figure it out and win in three. Both of them are big on taking the ball early and hitting it deep, and both of them were hitting a lot of errors long. I haven't noticed it with any men yet, but I haven't seen as much from them, and the men tend to have more topspin, don't they?
