OK the obligatory congrats to Rafa but oh I feel so bad for Roger especially after he started out so well. Sigh. It's done, he 'll get over it. I really hope he has another W or USO title coming, preferably this year.
acre I totally agree on the GOAT thing, with all of Roger's records I still think he's way ahead. Though I would be a fan either way, I just don't like this trash -the -loser thing that goes on in every GS final I watch and can remember.

Hee, I got so wrapped up in the match/resume that when I just got up I realized I 1) never drank my tea from this morning 2) left the lettuce I was cleaning before the match in the drainer. That's four hours I just completely forgot about anything else.
Loved Courier indicating how short his shorts used to be when he won.

Well I'm sad of cou-se .... but it will ease off, I mean it's to Nadal who is as wo-thy as the come, and it is the FO afte- all. Doubt I'm gonna be able to watch the NBC cove-age, sounds like the talking points will just give me fits. Maybe some of the TTC will be okay. And it's not about being anti-Nadal, if he'd beaten Djok(anyone else) I'd have watched and loved it. He is my 2nd fave. It's just that Fed owns me.
I'll console myself with the Fed-Djok semi.

Heh. Did Roger just ditch JMac?? JMac has got a reputation to repair with some, no??
ETA: Pathetic man. I wish Rafa would tell him, 'please: climb out of my ass'

How adorable was "Bonjour" "Merci, beaucoup"?
I gotta admit, that inability to convert that set point in the 1st set is going to haunt me for a bit. I wonder how Roger is going to think about that?

Oopssorry- well Jmac was all in Roger's rear during the final telecast so I guess he wanted to spread his rear end time between the two players.
Commies to Roger's fans- he had a great tournament and this was the best match the two have had at RG.
As a Rafa fan- I am so happy he ended the tournament in great form. His English has greatly improved through the years. What a difference from his interview in 2005.
Rafa looks so happy with the fans.

Delurking finally. I've only posted a few times in the past but wanted to come online to say how much I enjoy this board. I am a HUGE Rafa fan but this board has allowed me to also reclaim my Fed love. Let me explain:
Previously, I was a long time poster on another tennis board which had the nastiest Fed fans. These people were just hateful and ugly about it. I had been both a Fed and Rafa fan but these people completely turned me off on Roger. When he won they were so in your face and shitty about it, I began to root against Fed just so I wouldn't have to deal with their gloating. They would never give Rafa ANY credit. If he won a match it was because 1) He cheated 2) There was some grand conspiracy in the tennis world (they would claim surfaces or schedules were changed to benefit Nadal) to help Rafa win. 3) Fed was suffering from Mono. Still. They could never say anything like "Damn. Nadal was just too good today."
It got to the point where I would root against Fed and then wonder why. I'd watch his game which was so beautiful, hear his interviews where he came off as so nice and classy and wonder why I didn't like this guy. It finally occurred to me - it wasn't Fed I had a problem with - it was his bloody fans on that board!!!
So I left that board and started reading here more regularly and found myself cheering Fed in his matches until the final. Of course I wanted Nadal to win this one but really would have been fine with Roger taking it. What a nice feeling.
I'm looking forward to Wimbledon and hope to post more here. I hope they both meet in the finals again and we are treated to a great final.

Woo Rafa It did seem competitive at points in the match, but sadly, not enough to keep me riveted like the Fed/Djok match. (Although possibly because I like both players, it's just not as exciting.)

That was very different from what I heard if you're talking about today's match (though I'm not sure), but I did turn the sound down after the first set (-ish). I think we've probably had this conversation before, though I won't go search the archives. I think at some point most of us have come to agree that JMac's approach to commentating is to pick a player to 'coach' through the match. I have never ever felt that he did that on Roger's side against Rafa. It's part of why I dislike their matches - JMac is often commentating, among other things, since it's almost always the final stages and the coverage turns to NBC.
YMMV, as I'm sure it does, and I'd love to hear evidence to the contrary. Though I'm doubting it since he was practically begging Rafa to endorse his (JMac's) opinion that Roger could never be the GOAT. Not so nice to put Rafa in that position - either having to somehow point out that JMac doesn't share his opinion, or having to go publicly against his friend - something we all well know he is loathe to do.
Welcome, micki15! I wouldn't be able to spend two seconds on any other board, and am sorry you've had such an experience. It's so great to have a place here to be who we are and root our hearts, without all that other stuff that must get in the way.
My paper(s) is(are) now stalled with kids all over me, the temp up in the high humidity range, and no other superstitions to drive it.... :/

Welcome micki15 - this is a g-eat place. People sometimes say nasty things about individual playe-s, but we don''t say nasty things to each othe-. Big diff. Also a big diff between being happy someone won and gloating, plus folks he-e a-e basically sane, y'know? Nobody insists that any of the top playe-s actually suck at the game, just chance they stay in the top 10, etc.
Not much love he-e fo- a couple guys (Djok, Mu--ay), but nobody says they can't play tennis.
Yeah, sounds like I wn't be able to stand watching NBC. JMac is stuck in a wo-ld whe-e you- competito- must also be the enemy, good vs evil, the best vs nobody who counts.
Wow, I wish my laptop didn't suck so bad.

Thanks for the welcome oopssorryand acre. It's nice to connect with tennis fans who seem to have respect for each other and the players. It will take some getting used to! ;D
I am now re-watching the match since I didn't get to really enjoy it while it was happening. It seemed Rafa would lose points when I watched and win them when I was in the other room. (Yes, I apparently have that type of power over events that happen in another continent). So I spent much of the match in my kitchen, trying eavesdrop on the score when I could.

I went to a diner to eat and watch the last set. Upon arrival I found a group of other fans watching and cheering. Since I don't have many friends who follow tennis it was being with folks who love and understand the game.
Congratulations, Rafa. Fabulous effort, Roger. See you all for Wimby!
Acre I love your laptop for being the star of this forum.

I want to live where you live, GSG. If I walked into a local diner and asked for this match, not one place would have any clue what I was talking about. Hell, in Pete Sampras's resurgent run at the USO I couldn't get a BAR/PUB (I live in the U.S., unfortunately?) to tune in to his matches. Sheesh.
And -- me too! I think we should all pick our own code and keep the language as lively as the content! :/

micki15, stick around. . . jer might disagree but I hope we're not too awful to the players we aren't fans of. It helps to not be a forum devoted just to a certain player because there will always be someone keeping us in line--although we don't have any Bryan Brother fans around here, right? So they're fair game.
Speaking of Djokovic (see what I did there?), I just made a big batch of gluten-free mac 'n cheese (rice pasta and a mixture of teff flour and potato starch in the cheese sauce). Think that would slow Novak down? I can send him some. . . Did anyone see ATP Uncovered with them showing Novak passing out cake to everyone for the birthday celebration the French Open gave him? Was it gluten free or did they just make him hand out pieces to everyone?
acre, while I'm still a fan of your cryptic messages, have you thought of buying a cheap keyboard? Or are you planning on getting your laptop fixed so it wouldn't make sense?
