Whew! Scratchy but nice win by Francesca. NBC is lucky they stuck with it live, because I was ready to come through the tv when Tennis Channel's tv coverage ended, and their online feed went down.

Interesting tennis this morning, even if some of the matches were lopsided. So happy for Frankie Schiavone. I love that JMac loves her. And it's great to see a woman player with such fighting spirit whose name isn't Williams or Sharapova. It's also great to see a one-handed backhand and an all-court (gasp!) game on a woman player.
Fed looked great. It's such a joy to watch the man play well. I hope he's able to do it for many more years. Although I doubt Stan W. feels the same way.
Didn't watch Djoker-Gasquet. Did Djoker just dominate or did Gasquet not show much fight?
Re the Fognini fiasco, I wish the umpire had made it a point of announcing what was happening, including exactly what the rule was. I also wish Gimelstob, McEnroe et al had provided a less muddle explanation of the rule, how it was applied in this case, and just why Rafa was so pissed off about it.
Yes. I'm also pleased that they didn't embargo any of the matches on TTC. Hopefully that is a new policy that we can count on.

I love the mental match up of this Ferrer/Monfils match. As John Mac said, Ferrer is never going to beat himself and we all know Monfils will beat himself 9 times out of 10.
That guy is just creepy to me--which is ridiculous when you look at the players I love. Just where do I draw the line between creepy/not creepy?
I didn't know about Rafa, but at some point either Gimelstob or Mac (how can I not remember?) said something that made a lot of sense--even though it looked like we were looking at a cramp it really isn't fair to put that onus on the trainer. Right now the rule says the trainer is the one who decides if it is a cramp or muscle strain--and effectively end the match right there with his decision. If the player is saying it's a muscle, what's the trainer supposed to do? Say he's lying? So it makes sense to me that the trainer would go with whatever Fognini was telling him. Meanwhile, Montanes!?! How could you let the hobbling guy win? Just like Mac said, Montanes was hitting the balls straight back to Fognini and Fabio barely had to move.
I'm baking a batch of GF chocolate chip cookies. Loaded with fat and sugar. Think I should send some to Djokovic to slow him down a bit? eta: breezy, I've gotten sick from mislabeled GF foods and I wouldn't do that to Djokovic--but I would like to introduce him to the junk food side of gluten free.

Yeah and put some extra gluten in.

I should have been watching on the computer! I get irritated because sometimes by the time I find the stream, I've lost my window of time-watching moments.... Also, pathetically old-school.
Four rounds and I've yet to see Roger play! Anyone out there with recordings of all the matches who might want to sell me a copy? /worth-a-shot long shot

Oops, if you go to tennischannel.com and go to the live feeds, they have saved matches for view on demand. You just have to click on the "vod" button on the viewer, choose the right date and they have most of the matches there.

Please tell me this isn't right. So NBC embargoes matches, and then they don't show the end of them? WTF? So is there NO way for me to see the end of the Monfils/Ferrer match or the Sveta/Dani match?

fala, thanks for the info about the tennis channel vod. I haven't seen Roger either except for a few points and like harry am very happy he's doing so well. I think it bodes well for him. also happy for Francie, not only for her style and spirit, but I didn't like the way she was being overlooked as if her win last year was a fluke or something.

Seconded. What's going on? I fully expected to come over to TTC and see the fourth set of Monfils/Ferrer or find out that they suspended play but it's a replay of Roger/Stan and live scores has them playing.
eta: weird, Ferrer went up a break in the fourth and Monfils had just twisted his ankle and was hobbling around but it was Ferrer who wanted play to stop. Glad for me, since the stream was streaky.

Francie just gets more awesome by the month. Today was a great example of that.
chocula - I'm floored by my ladies' bracket, honestly. Three of my semifinalists are alive, plus I had Nastya pulling today's upset and Petkovic getting to the quarters despite being in Clijsters' section (she's gotten some excellent breaks in the draws this year). Basically, unless Sharapova wins, I'm in decent shape.

My only other chance is for Vika to lose soon. But honestly, I'm rooting for that because the thought of a Sharapova/Vika Semifinal is just TOO intolerable! The Shriek-O-Meter will be in full force if that happens.

. . . and can you imagine the number of times we'd have to hear "Big Babe Tennis" if those two were in the semis?
However, that is the match up I want for the semi. Those two are just playing better than anyone else in their half. My men's doubles big wish is for Starace/Bracciali to get to the final (to face Max/Daniel, natch). The thought of seeing Potito Starace in London at the WTF?!? *shivers*
Okay, so I'm re-watching Roger/Stan and I'm reminded of a question I had from this morning. Why does Johnny Mac bring up Gary Brackett? As a Rutgers grad, I'm a Brackett fan but no matter how many times I've heard John talk about him I cannot figure out why. Something about Brackett only being 5'9" but neither Roger nor Stan is short, so I'm not sure what's going on.

*shudder*
Anyone read Wertheim's column of late? A reader wrote in a suggestion about having everyone in the stands all sport noise-reduction earphones at a match like that one, to send the message. Jon loved it. I have to say I do, too. Funny yet direct: make it stop.

I think the crowd should scream along in rhythm with the players. Take Back the ... Air Waves?
