When Chela made the quarters at the French back in 2004, he lost to a Brit - Tim Henman. Murray has knocked him out of the tournament the last two years: 1st round in 2009, 2nd round in 2010 (after Murray had another two-sets-and-a-break down comeback). Deck definitely stacked against Chela. The painkillers must be good for Andy to say to Gimeldouche that he's got more drugs in him than Ozzy Osbourne. ETA: Daniel Koellerer banned for life for match-fixing. A menace is finally off the court!

Wow! Assuming he actually did it, he is some kind of maniac. He already had a a history for being a dirty, confrontational player, and even somehow provoked Stefan Koubek to attempt to physically strangle him after an Austrian league match last year. I saw the video of that, and it sounded like the crowd was actually cheering for Koubek and jeering Koellerer right after it happened.
ETA: I found the video:

Heh, guess he's telling everyone that because the Radio Roland Garros guys were talking about it as well. Earlier in the day they were speculating that Andy hadn't injured his ankle as much as originally thought--guess they're eating their words now, a torn tendon! Ow. Is it really a good idea to play on that? Back in the office and I cannot find a nice, clean, live stream. Everything is all herky jerky. Hey, Pippa is at the French. Hope she enjoyed herself.

Read the Crazy Dani report on the BBC live feed while at work. So glad, but also kind of afraid. That guy is so unhinged that I worry about trigger events like this on his psyche (and therefore for the rest of the ATP)....

From the reports I"ve read, Dani was charged with three separate violations including two in which he was supposed to have approached other players and asked them to throw their matches. The violations are said to have occurred in July 2010, and October 2009. I checked his playing activity, and he was playing in challengers in Cordenons, Italy and Scheveningen, Holland in July 2010, and Vienna and Moscow in October 2009. Tennis.com printed the following quote from him:

I hope you are a scholar or a reporter or a lawyer, fala, because that is some evidence building!
It's interesting that he couldn't be banned for all the hostile behavior over the years. I don't know what kind of case they have against him, and have never heard anything about this crime regarding him before. What a development. What a video, too, of Koubek. Wow....

I do recall that he was also the one who had issues last year regarding betting info on his website.
I really can't see any other players defending him, given his long history. He makes Jeff Tarango look sane.

I'm taking advantage of being able to watch a stream of mixed doubles so I'm only looking at the live scores for the women's singles--but what is going on with Petkovic? Is she playing horribly or is Maria playing lights out? I see Li Na and Azarenka are darn close score wise.
Oh, I saw an interview with the Bryan brothers a couple of days ago and whichever one got married called his wife "a great girl." I dunno, maybe because I don't like them but that phrase seems a bit 50s, doesn't it? She's an adult who is a practicing lawyer.
eta: oops, I jinxed Maria.

OMG, Federer and Jon Hamm's voice in the same place (a Mercedes ad, of course)? Be still my heart. And ovaries.

lt - from what I saw, it was mostly Maria playing lights out. For the first time, I truly think she may actually win this title.

Well Nadal seems to have kicked it up a notch to say the least!
ETA--Well nothing shows the difference between the Women's game and the Men's game more than what appears will be left of the draw after this round.
On the Men's side--The Top Four Seeds are the last four standing. On the Women's side--None of the Top Four Seeds remain!

Can't believe I'm saying this but I really want her to win the title. She used to be most disliked player in the WTA but she has really won me over the last couple of years.

I must have some 12-year old boy in me because while the adult me likes Maria for her maturity and smile and fight and ability to come back from a really bad injury and the little shuffling she does between points and the way she clenches her fist when she's really concentrating, the 12-year boy likes her because she's just so very pretty. Very, very pretty. And so much prettier now that she's getting into her mid-20s where her beauty is solidifying.
I know, shallow. But there are more than a couple of guys on the tour that I drool over so fair's fair. Weirdly, I never used to think of me as a big fan but I do remember wanting her to win that 2004 (was it 2004?) US Open very badly so I guess I am a fan.
I'm watching Murray/Chela and just looking at the scoreline for Rafa/Soderling but, boy, that match wasn't quite as tough as I would have imagined it to be, huh? Soderling not up to the task or has Rafa found his form?
