Wow. Roger has to be just beside himself. This is amazing that he was able to finally get the #1 ranking back after so long. I wonder if he every quietly thinks "In your face" (or the Swiss equivalent) to all those people who are always so quick to say he's done?
I hope Andy eventually takes this as a positive even in loss, because he has nothing to be ashamed of. He brought some tremendous game with him today. I'm glad the crowd's behind him.
On the plus side, my brilliant little "nephew" was rooting for Roger when we stopped by my friend's house, so he'll be happy now.

Sometimes you have to say too good. Well done to Roger. Back to number 1.
I hope the Brit press and public aren't too hard on Andy. He came against a fantastic player.
Sobbing while Andy is composing himself

Jeez, first Serena, now Andy Murray is getting me choked up? Black is white and up is down.

Congrats to Roger. Aw, the family is so cute.
Andy has a certain curmudgeon-like humanity about him that I find likeable. But I live in NYC so perhaps my standards are skewed.

I agree. He did great, Roger just found it again.
When his voice cracked. . . I started tearing up but looking at Kim and Judy crying? The tears started flowing.
Heh, you know what would make the entire nation forgive Roger for beating Andy? Kate looking at those adorable little girls and deciding it was time. . . .

Same here, guru, but I'm from Philadelphia, so I'm not much better of a judge than you are. When his voice cracked. . . I started tearing up but looking at Kim and Judy crying? The tears started flowing. Okay, since we're being all honest and shit, maybe I did a little more than just get choked up. It was mostly my allergies though.

Roger at #1. That still doesn't seem right.
Seriously, this was a quality match. In contrast to the last few finals with all the delaying tactics, the match kept me watching so I approve of more Federer/Murray matches. (How much would I love it for Andy to get revenge on Roger at the Olympics.)
I'm at work and did watch the end of the match on ESPN's site but haven't seen the ceremony because I might be able to get away with watching the match but crying ain't gonna happen here. I clicked the window off once I saw Kim's face.
guru - maybe that's why I'm a fan of his too. Just outside NYC.

Ha! I grew up in a suburb of Philly and now live in a suburb of NYC so I'm going to have to give this one to falafaclese. There ain't nothin' like a Philly curmudgeon.
The difference between the US press and the intrusive British press: when Tom Rinaldi asked Roger about the moment when Roger put his arm around Andy and shared a moment he asked what he felt for Andy. The UK tabloids would have asked what he had said. . . (it helps that Rinaldi is a professional journalist--Mary would have asked what he said too. . . )
Awwww, look at those shiny shoes Mirka has on!

Wow that was exactly what I wanted to happen, a d-eam Wimbledon fo- me. Except, I knew the-e would be no getting out without tears today, damn. Okay, it's not exactly what I wanted, I can't help but be so sad fo- Andy but .....
OMG!!!!! 17 Slams, #1, that's Fed. He's The Man. Fed as #1 seems so, so, so right to me! Like, o-der is resto-ed in the unive-se. Not that I thought it would happen. A Slam yeah, #1, no way.
I'm in a little bit of shock. I did think it likely he might win this final, but I hadn't thought at all he would win the damn semi so it's just amazing.

So happy for Roger. I'm so proud of his stubborn competitiveness where he still continues to pursue his goals in spite of what others think.
But I'm so sad for Andy and look forward to seeing him win the first of several majors. I hope he can take true encouragement from his performance this tournament, as he was incredibly impressive and has made tremendous strides since last year, witness his amazing performance in the Aussie semis, beating Djokovic in Dubai (or was it Doha?), and now this fabulous Wimby run. I truly believe that Djokovic and Rafa are both more vulnerable than in years past and that Roger is still as vulnerable as he's been since losing the number one ranking. There are true opportunities for a player of Andy's ability.
And I was struck watching this final how nice it was to see beauty and elegant shotmaking again in a slam final. As enthralling as Djoker and Rafa's pitched battles have been, it was exhilarating watching the gorgeous and often unexpected shots Roger and Andy produced.

YES!!! Belated again. Tiki, first of all welcome back and second of all, I was totally rooting for Roger too. When he lost the first I thought he wasn't going to win it and was all sad/confused because I thought he was playing well enough, as it turned out he was. JMac was right about the quality of the match. However, I was so glad when the roof was put up, I was so hoping for that to happen and help him. But while I've been nervous before watching major finals, I think this was my most nervous ever. I washed my sheets, I washed a second load of laundry. Even when Roger went ahead I just wasn't sure. So relieved and happy for him. I do wonder if the twins may remember this - I do have some definite memories from when I was maybe 3-1/2. But yes it was sad seeing Andy tearful, and his mom and Kim cry. And I thought Lendl looked more disappointed than in any of his losses as a player. Still Andy is younger and may have a slam on the hardcourts (that would be my guess) some day. For any of you who watched the British feed - was Becker doing the commentary again? I find him the most annoying commentator of all time, way worse than the McEnroes. He can't get through a match without presuming that the player on the court is pulling the same tricks he used to do. Now that it's ended I will go back and watch the whole thing! And it turns out I did record Charles Barkley yesterday so will be sure to watch. ETA: And oh yes, great that Roger was volleying again, I was definitely annoyed that the Mac brothers were claiming he'd lost it on the volley on Friday. So happy for Roger's win, Number One is just icing for me though I'm sure he's happy about it

Interesting experience... first time in a long while that I would be happy no matter the result - was very odd. If it hadn't been such a good game, I'd've been bored.
Congrats to Roger and sympathy to Andy fans.

Yes, it was the same yesterday during the second set when Aga's play made Serena back off on all the power. Just some beautiful play both days.
Yes again. It really was weird. If it had been a blowout either way anything would have distracted me. Thank goodness for a really good match.

Oh and I'm also so happy I'm again able to access the NYTimes tennis blog - a long time it was blocking me and wanting money, which no thanks I don't want to read it that much! But today it's completely accessible to me, at least 10-15 a-ticles so yay again.
I'm still all shaky, and in a way a little su-p-ised that I'm as sad as I am fo- Andy. He's not someone who's eve- been special to me(and I mean to me, not that he's not a special playe-), he's fine, good game etc but eh. I have definite feelings/opinions about lots of guys, good and bad: Nadal, Djok, DelPo, Jo, roddick, but Andy not so much. Must be the Wimbledon thing, and 4 Slams without a win. Painful, and he is good enough, it just hasn't happened.
But he should take a lot out of this, and looking back I hope he can be proud of himself, because he dese-ves to be.
And I basically slept th-ough both finals so now I have a positive o-gy of tennis to watch, without even feeling sick to my stomach! No, it's not as exciting when you know the ending, but damn I have lost all my ne-ve as I've gotten olde-. It's a dilemma, I can only stand to watch when I'm not invested. Oh well, I still enjoy the watching I do, be it live o- not.
