Ha! You said peckerwood. Ha! (Yes, I'm twelve.)
This third set is intense.

I've often felt like I'm a 10-year-old boy trapped in a middle-aged woman's body, Guru. Don't you even think of getting in a burping contest with me.
Congrats, Serena! Get that GS!
ETA in my opinion, Serena has the GS. The calendar year thing is bullshit. But I still want her to get this.

My god. Djokovic is so gross. I don't want to see his carb-deprived body. I'm going to eat a whole loaf of French bread tonight in his honor.

I know! There is something kind of physically gross about him and his skinniness. I also detest how he sticks his butt out when he hits his forehand.
Didn't care about Williams v. Williams, although I would have been happy if V had won. I've grown to like them both as people*, particularly V, but I think they both play ugly, ugly tennis. I hate their strokes and the aesthetics of both their games.
*The turning point was how hilarious they were in that iPhone ad where they were in someone's dream playing ping-pong. Seriously, after that I began to warm to both of them in a way I had never done before.
And, as much as I'm not a fan of Serena's and don't care if she gets the GS, I feel like it's so APPROPRIATE to her place at the very top of the pantheon of great athletes that she should have this accomplishment and all the attendant attention and praise, particularly since tennis in general and Serena in particular* haven't received what is really their due in the last 15 or so years.
*ESPECIALLY in light of all the attention in the commercial world that Sharapova gets. Gag.

I appreciate your asteriks, harry24
Don't mind Halep but am pulling for a Vika vs Serena final. And still trying to process Vinci's semifinal berth. Talk about a trivia answer for the ages if she was to end Serena's run!
Glad Feli made it competitive, which is more thn I thought would happen when I went to bed after 1st set.

This, times a thousand. Nothing against Sharapova, but she's not really that pretty. It's like looking at the top 4 in tennis (not the "Big 4," but that would work too) and thinking, "Okay, Roger's the best looking. Wait, really? Yeah, I guess so. Bitter-beer-face it is." There's not much to choose from. So for Sharapova, it's, "She's tall and skinny and blonde! If you poke yourself really hard in both eyes, she looks just like a model!" To me, Venus actually *does* look like a model, and Serena is proving herself to be an all-time great athlete (regardless of sport OR gender). But unfortunately, I'm not in charge of the world...

Oh, dear. Petra is starting to look absolutely exhausted (sixth game of third set). Pam Shriver addressed a thought I JUST had: can the players spend the change-over anywhere other than their chairs? Could they move the chair to the shade or just go sit in the shade on the ground?
I just love Petra's beautiful game (when she's playing well), and she seems like a lovely young woman to boot.
ETA: I always wish they would flash the serve speed in the little score box the way they flash the pitch speed in baseball. Like right now, it looks as though Petra's serve speed has really dropped. I want to know!
ETA2: Damn. I was right. Petra had completely lost it.
Also, Chris E needs a makeup consult for TV. She should ask Martina, who is looking really beautiful these days. But Chrissy's look is overly pastel and has a smeared quality that doesn't look good. I wonder if the ESPN people do their own makeup, because I haven't noticed the other ESPN ladies having the same problems.

Petra lost? I was out, didn't see any of it. I agree, I really like her game and personality.
Rooting for Vika to make the final here.

Federer is playing some ridiculous tennis tonight. Man. Also, harry: If that happens again, you might want to see a doctor.

Sad she lost, agree francienolan. I hope Vika wins a USO someday. I really was hoping she or Petra could make the final so it would be interesting but I think Serena will coast now. I wish Serena the best, but I don't think there will be any drama there.
Absolutely tiki! He is such a joy to watch. Sigh.

With so much tennis tomorrow grateful for flexible schedule and ability to do a bunch of things during last night's early USO finish. Not sure how playing back to back will potentially impact women's final but not much else that could have been done. I'm an Atlanta Hawks fan and one their starters had his leg broken by NYPD. I believe his case in litigation so glad James Blake is physically ok. And havent seen lt here since my recent return. She always had fun on the ground reports...Hope she is well.

It's shocking that Halep is starting off so flat. I thought she had her nerves under control these days. We'll see. Second set starting now.
Update: Flavia played well but Halep really choked. I didn't really care who won but I'm happy for Flavia after all these years.

I'm not that fond of Pennetta, and sad for Halep, but it's her own fault. Come on, Serena!

I like Simona and Flavia equally, so I don't mind that their match worked out the way that it did, it just seems weird that Simona had nothing more to bring at the end of that match given how much of a fighter she is. That said, nothing is more entertaining than watching Flavia's in-between-point facial expressions. She's great.
Regarding the discussion above about Sharapova, in spite of the fact that I've never quite warmed up to her, I have never held her popularity against her. Genetically she happens to check all the right boxes, but it's not her fault that the media has drooled all over itself for her from day one. I do, however, find it amusing (and sad) that there's still such a lowest common denominator mentality out there. On the other hand, there have been times when Serena hasn't done herself any favors. That "fiery" on-court persona she has (which at times has boiled over) is more interesting, but less palatable than Maria's inscrutable evenness (even when she drops the F-bomb on-court she does it relatively discreetly). To be fair, there are plenty of blondes to choose from. Vika (who I really like) is probably too tough and prickly for them, Petra came along later, and definitely doesn't seem to seek out the spotlight, Woz is (usually) equally inoffensive, and opens up much more than Maria, but still hasn't won the biggest titles. I guess my point is that Maria didn't create the situation, she just cashed in . . .and she did have to work hard to get there. There's inequity there for sure, but calculating how much gets complicated.
Another thing that bugs: Roger is the most marketable because he's a champion and a nice guy, but Maria is the most marketable because she's a champion and has the right look. They're both sort of equally attractive people, probably both equally nice (at least I don't see any evidence to the contrary) but we get it sold to us that Maria is a supermodel, and Roger's nice.
