I totally agree, fala, that it's the media rather than Maria, and she would have been stupid not to cash in. As far as what we're sold about her vs Roger, that's just plain, old-fashioned sexism at work. I don't think Woz would work, even beyond the no-GS issue, because she looks like a grinning mouth-breather far too often. I like Azarenka's toughness. She seems like she wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone to fuck off. Obviously not what the media wants, but I love it! Damn. I'm sick, and at work, and I just want to be at home watching tennis and chatting with you guys.

Oh Serena. How do you let Roberta Vinci take a set off you? Come back and win this thing!
ETA Is anyone watching this match? Is Serena spraying a lot of balls, and/or is Vinci playing the match of her life? I'm sorry, but the thought of a Pennetta/Vinci final is just horrible to me.

I'm watching. Serena got tight in the second and is still really looking awkward. That said, Vinci is indeed playing the match of her life throwing everything she's got out there. Could go either way.

Thanks, guru! Even watching the scoreboard is making me tense.

It has felt like Serena has been flailing since midway though the second set.

I'm afraid Serena is going to have nightmares forever with that loss. I just messaged the news to tikiboy: "now that final is gonna be one i don't much care about. scrambling elderly italians."
ETA: fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

I found myself thinking: "please, Serena, for women everywhere, please don't choke." But then I realized, hey, Roberta's a woman too. She was awesome in her plain old professionalism.
Everyone is saying how hard it is to win the grand slam. But IMO this situation was much, MUCH more difficult for Serena than it was for Graf or Court or Laver or ... was it Budge? First off, she's an American trying to do the final leg in America. Secondly, the pressure of all those ads and sponsors predicated on this one achievement is ridiculous.
Finally, there is a small part of me that is delighting in the honesty of sports spoiling the fun of all the new tennis "fans" like all the repulsive "celebrities" who are suddenly showing up and buying tickets at inflated prices for a match they assumed would happen. It's sports, everyone. It's not professional wrestling.

Jesus, Cilic, wake up. My day is rotten enough already.
ETA Thanks, harry, for noting how Djokovic pokes his ass out on forehands (and waiting for serves). Ewwwwwww, nasty skinny ass.

So Cilic broke. Still doesn't give much hope for him in this match. This is just painful. If Cilic would just hit the ball IN the freaking court we might have a match.
I missed both ladies matches as I was driving out to the lake. Wished I had recorded the William/Vinci match.

Ah, breezy, "driving out to the lake" sounds so nice!
SuperRoger is still around, it seems.

My poor friend Dave. He's coming over shortly to see the rest of the match, but that's not looking likely. Federer has been ridiculous yet again.

Excited for tennis fans who will be able to go to women's final for pennies. Not sure who I would like to see win but it should be entertaining. And as much as I would like to see Roger win, I'm trying to be happy he's in the final and have measured expectations.
