There should not be on-court coaching allowed during the Year End Championships! These are supposed to be the elite fucking eight women in the world in tennis, and they are being paid a shitload of money just to show up in Doha. These are, for the most part, women who go around talking about how great they are, and how they "deserve" what ever ranking they have (I'm looking at you, Jankovic) and they should be able to walk the walk without hand-holding. As i've said before, get it together. Of course JJ's not the only one who gets coached, or who talks about how much she deserves her ranking, she's just the one who's bugging me right this second.

I totally agree falafaclese. And is it me or have the girls become more HEADCASE-esque with the introduciton OF on-court coaching. They weren't as bad this time a couple of years ago.

ATT UVerse! I have them for phone, pc and tv, and actually it's been great, the dvr holds like a million hours of programming and is easy to search and access and in general I'd quite recommend it ... BUT BUT BUT I'm moving in 2 weeks. I have Uverse here, I'll have Uverse in the new place, but there is apparently no possible way for me to keep any of the stuff I have recorded. At first they said maybe I could pay the $150 for the physical box rather than drop it off and get a new one but noooo - my old acct will be closed, a new one opened, and every single goddamn thing lost! Well, unless I want to record all that stuff over onto a VCR tape or DVD - but c'mon I'm not using a VCR anymore, and I've had no use for a DVD player cause I have Uverse and their DVR, it would just be a duplication!
So pissed. It's not like I'm watching the French final, or Wimbledon, or the US open, on a weekly basis or anything, but those were some classic historic goddamn matches, and I want them! This isn't a directly tennis related bitch, except it's the tennis matches that I really care about and well - you're "my people", you get it that it's a serious loss to someone like me. Sniffle - no seeing Roger get a career slam, break the all time slam record, no classic return of Kim, no watching JMDP in his joyous first win. Yeah, yeah, they're probably on Youtube, but that is not the same!
And just to rub salt in the wound - I spoke at length with both a service rep and a tech and kept telling them "hey this is a serious flaw in your system", and turns out that they know that, and in a few months, things will be transferable! Not soon enough to do me any damn good though. I actually can't bitch about the people I dealt with - they were sympathetic, tried very hard to be helpful, provide alternative options - it's a systemic issue and not their fault. But it still sucks.

Oh, that would kill me. Since they know it is a problem, can't they keep your old account open for the few months it would take until the technology is there for the transfer? Just do a change of address? Obviously not, since you would have already asked.

Hmm, I'm not sure that I did ask that specific, exact question - I will tomorrow! But it will be pricey, over $100 a month additional, and I'm not exactly sure when the transfer capability will be up. But I'll certainly ask, thanks for the idea.
Grumble, grumble, bitch and moan ... nope! Apparently it's an issue of piracy and people copying/sellng movies, therefore an honest upstanding citizen such as myself (honest, I am!) gets penalized for the sins of others.
Huh - kinda like Malisse and Wickmayer seem to be paying for Agassi, right?

acre, if you really want to keep those matches, you could get a Panasonic DVD recorder which I've found is the best brand for that kind of thing (some others, like Sony, are said to treat TV shows as copyright-protected and you can't record them). They may not be that easy to find but they are good. For some reason DVRs aren't transferable it seems, although I don't know why that is. I have a Panasonic, and what my DVR lets you do is connect it to the secondary video out and you can record while the show plays back. This may be different from your system (I have Time Warner Cable in NYC), but I would suggest looking up the manual to your DVR box online and seeing if you can do something like that.
Hope that helps! I know it's kind of a lot to spend but I like having the option myself. If it's any comfort, it seems that the French and Wimbledon do sometimes get released on DVD by legit companies after awhile (not the US Open though). I understand your pain; I still have Roger's French and Wimbledon titles on my DVR even though I'm about 80-90% full most of the time.

Thanks all, I appreciate the ideas, and the sympathy even more! As it is, I'm probably just going to have to let it go - if I ever stop having joint surgeries(ops 5 & 6 coming up, and that's all in the last 5 years, primarily in the last 3) and become healthy enough to work again, perhaps I'll buy a DVD, but for now, no.
I figure the W final, and perhaps the US open semi/final may be shown at some point on ESPN Classic, or of course rain delays. In terms of the actual quality of play and suspense, the French really didn't qualify as a classic, it's only cause of it's significance that it matters.
It's still good to have somewhere to bitch about it though, heh whining helps!
And just to pile on with the tennis specific stuff - the on court coaching has got to go, HATE! I mean it's kinda fun and voyeuristic to listen in, but the whole concept is terrible. If you're not good enough in your head to figure it out for yourself, well then too bad, so sad, sucks to be you -but that's just the way tennis is. This is your sport, you knew what it entailed from the start and ALL sports involve a mental component.

acre, I just mentioned this elsewhere, but if you have TTC, you will be able to record all 8 of this year's Slam finals starting December 23 or thereabouts. I just saw an ad for it this week!
Hope that helps.

I guess people just haven't looked here but I second the Pam Shriver hate. I sincerely hope she's drunk because someone can't be that stupid, especially when it came to Kim Clijsters.

I think Pam Shriver hate is just such an evergreen topic. It's at its most intense during slams were her grim mug is plastered all over TV, and MAN was I pissed that she was stinking up the joint while I could have been listening to PMac and Cahill talk. My love for Cahill, even when he was a player, is in direct opposition to my complete and utter disdain for Shriver...even when SHE was a player...so to see him sitting next to her just made me sad because as much as I love Killer, I couldn't listen to her drone on and on.
So not only does she suck as a commentator, she made me not watch Darren Cahill.
