I saw that match and her bra cups were showing almost a quarter of the time. I thought it was very distracting. And it didn't even seem to be a sports bra but more like a Victoria's Secret type of thing. I would rather have other stuff getting folks talking about women's tennis than the potential for nip slips and having the top so low that you can see a good chunck of her bra. Kind of makes it less about the sport and more about - geeze- you can see half of her bra! Not exactly what I want for female sports. (And I didn't even mind Serena's catsuit although well- not my taste) And she was in mixed dubs so she was going up to chat with Gilles Simon with her bra out for a show. If she had a little bandeau thing it would have been fine- but I really just thought it looked pretty darned tacky. Who was Elaine's nemesis on Seinfeld who always had her bra showing- well...I felt like Elaine.
I don't agree with Margaret Court on plenty of issues and I do not consider myself a prude- but I did think it was way too much.

Just a reminder because I almost forgot myself: The Australian Open begins Sunday night at 7pm on ESPN2.

Chesty, you shame your namesake! ;-) (just kidding)
Heh, I guess I'm pretty much a "more skin the better" kinda person (though it's really not the girls I'm looking to ogle). It's like figureskating... I admire the athleticism, but I'm also entertained by the outfits. Although... from that standard, Alizet's outfit fails too, because unlike the catsuit, it's pretty boring.

Margret Court is complaining about a little bit of Bra? Oh these conservatives within tennis. They really irk me.
I too will be sad to not see Sharapova in the draw but have to disagree with the Williams comments. Yes they are some of today's best players but I believe many of the Serbs/Russisans who have beaten them in the past, are up there in that echlion of tennis awesome. Sure they won't go on to become as legendary as they are but as of now I think they are in many cases as good as the Williams.

The difference between the Williamses and the rest of the tour (minus Sharapova) is that the sisters win when it counts. Anybody can beat anybody but the WS step it up in the slams. Dementieva just beat Serena for the third time in a row at Sydney, but if they meet in Melbourne I know who my money will be on. The Serbs and Russians are a bit headcase-y and need to start increasing their majors count before they can be compared to the sisters, IMO. Maybe they will get it together this year.

You know I love Federer a whole heck of a lot and his piss-ey statements actually crack me up. This one about Fernando made me giggle, but it sure isn't very nice:
LOVING Verdasco's reaction to the loss and what he is hoping for in 2009:
If this is what dating Ana is doing for him, yippee.

The draws are out. I've only looked at the women's so far.
Jankovic has a veeeery easy draw. She should be able to make it to the semis. Safina is also in her half. The bottom half is a bit more stacked, with Serena, Venus and Dementieva. I think Venus has the toughest draws of the top 8 seeds.
Projected quarterfinals if the seeds hold up:
Jankovic/Zvonareva Safina/Ivanovic V. Williams/Dementieva S. Williams/Kuznetsova
Off to check the men's draw...

I think Ivanovic has an equally difficult draw. She could potentially run into Caroline Wozniacki in the 4th round, and Safina or Cornet in the quarters. Venus has had problems with Pennetta in the past, but she beat Flavia the last time they played, and if she plays like she has so far this year, she should be in good shape.
As for the men, I think Fed has the toughest draw. Seppi is his first round match-up and is manageable, but unpredictable and can be tough, Marat could be waiting in the 3rd round, and he could meet JMdP or Cilic in the quarters, and then Djoker, Roddick or Fat Dave in the semis. I think Roddick has a tough draw too.

Schwank vs Haas Hewitt vs Gonzalez Berdych vs Tomic are all first round match ups I find interesting
Both Roddick and Blake face qualifiers in the first round so I hope for their sake they pull thru, b/c both are up against the clock career wise...
And did Santoro just play his last US open? I thought he had retired at the end of the season...

Andy Roddick is up against the clock career wise? I remember hiom being like 18 years old in 01, if my mind can recall... how old is he now?
Hewitt vs Gonzalez... now that is a match up I cannot wait to see. Total opposite players. Should be a great one!

The shelf life of a top tier male tennis player is notoriously short.
At 26 some have argued that Roddick's days as being a legitimate contender at any GS event are over. I don't particularly care for him but am not sure that is the case. But I do feel as the window for him being in the final mix at a GS event is closing quickly. He may well play for another decade, but a first round loss against a qualifier (while always tough) isn't something that anyone would want to deal with at this stage of their career.

I think the shelf life depends on the player's game. I think because Andy has struggle to make his game versatile and anything other utterly-dependent on a whipping serve, he may suffer a shorter life out there....
Santoro would be a good case in point via the opposite style (there's a literary term for this: "foil"? tiki, I need you on this one) --
Ironically, I just watched a short video on facebook of Andy's very young self and a great rally at the USO. He literally ran down every ball and eventually won the point. It struck me because Andy seems to let so much go these days.

Foil is right, oops, and it's so true that Roddick and Santoro are opposites in virtually every way I can think of. I've never been a Roddick fan, but he did used to seem more fired up and confident, before he decided to live twenty feet behind the baseline.

OK, I picked Venus and Nadal to win the Australian. Logically, I know that Murray and Dementieva are on the hottest streaks, but they both need to prove their mettle in slams to convince me.
Djokovic just blew his last best chance to reach #2. Unless he defends his title at Australia, it's highly unlikely that he can pass Federer anytime soon. Though I think they've changed the points table this year, so I'm not entirely sure how that affects things.
I read that Volandri got suspended for doping. The Italians do seem to get banned quite often.
