Ginepri just took the third set off Wawrinka 6-4, to take a 2 sets to 1 lead.

[quote I'm sure this has been said many times but it bears repeating, CBS' commercial glut made the afternoon very difficult to get thru. We didn't need updates on matches that had just finished or graphics that showed the avg # of ball bounces before serve. And a surprisingly small number of commercials as well. No matter how clever I think that American Express ad is I do not need to see it every commercial break. Plus I had to laugh at the Maria commercial. They barely got it on air before she was out. Brings to mind the mojo campaing of a couple of years ago. I was disppointed in Tsonga too. I had never seen him before but heard great things. That's so true about the Maria commercial. You know, she seemed very matter-of-fact in her post-match press conference. It's like... "well, it's only a tennis match," which is fine, but there was something sort of concession-like in the way she said it. I tell you what, I sure didn't like her tennis "ensemble." I prefer really "clean" lines--not too froo-froo! I just thought her stuff--was a little too formal. Isn't she the one who wore that homage to swan lake? LOL!!! edited to correct quote

Kind of a desultory day compared to yesterday and the day before at the Open. Perhaps I'm just disappointed that Ana I. couldn't make a better showing against Venus.
Also, I'll bet if they showed more of the Ferrer-Nalby and Chela-Ljubicic five-setters the day would have seemed more exciting. Hopefully Henin-Safina and Djokovic-del Potro will make for an exciting evening session.
I did enjoy the McEnroe brothers joining up to do commentary, though.

Yeah, it certainly didn't help that Patrick (who was over in the Armstrong/Grandstand complex) was talking about how Sunday was following Saturday's pattern--but we didn't get to see much of it.

Well...I just read through what I missed and now I can't remember who said what that I wanted to comment on. And I'm lazy. On the Monaco hotness scale, well, his hair is just...well...we all know how bad it is. But the bod? farm2.static.flickr.com/1054/1214764995_6d558bc1d3.jpgNICE. As to Venus, I didn't like the green outfit the first time I saw it. It's grown on me. With the white bands along the side, it really gives her a feminine shape from the back. And she actually looked like she had a little booty going on too. Loved Tipsarevic in all black but white shoes. The commercial glut was freaking ridiculous.

Nike's outfits for Sharapova always look like bad ripoffs of Stella McCartney's designs for Maria Kirilenko.

Wawrinka is looking good and I'm not just talking about his tennis. His nose is very odd, though.
They're showing some of Moya's match, and he actually does look good in the blue Nike outfit. Moya sleeveless and sweating is a nice image.

What is with that music/radio coming through the mikes on Armstrong? I noticed it yesterday as well, very distracting.
francienolan, I don't think I ever answered this over on TWOP and, since he's playing now, I'll answer why I am not a fan of Ginepri's: he came off so cocky (to me) that one year he did well, and then he sucked again. Strangely enough, both MacEnroe brothers and now Courier have kinda alluded to that. Jim said that Robby admitted he thought it would be "easy (to win)." Who in professional tennis thinks like that? We'll see what Jose can do. I always thought he was a good fit with Courier.
amarathe, I'm going to have to agree with your entire post. That nose really is striking, isn't it? And I really like the mini-collar, short zipper Adidas shirt. As for Moya. . . even if I didn't like him so much I'd have to for introducing the sleeveless look to men's tennis. For the guys who can pull it off, it was a boon.
Speaking of fashion: are Justine and Dinara wearing the same skirt? I'm noticing because where the orange dips up in the middle makes it look like part of the skirt is stuck between their legs.

I've recently come to like Maria's dress, but only because it allowed The Australian to write an article with the supremely bitchy title "Maria dressed but no place to go".
I'm glad they're actually showing Moya/Kohlschreiber...Henin/Safina sounds like a blowout.

What time will be Lopez-Federer be on tomorrow? I tried finding it but couldn't find anything. I wasn't sure if it was going to be primetime or in the afternoon because of the US labor day holiday.

OT: I'm confused about what happened on TWoP - strangely, we can't talk about the fashions, people or tennis that we see aired on TV, and it's not affecting the other sports threads. I'm trying to come up with a very polite PM that won't get me banned. But I won't be posting on that thread, anymore, so I don't think I'll bother. Perhaps creating an ex-TWoP thread might be an idea to keep it out of here?
Wawrinka (I keep wanting to type Vavrinka!) is totally kinda freaky cute (akin to Isner). I hadn't really much of him before, but wow, beating Ginepri in 5 sets! Sadly, I only caught the end.

USA has kinda been the opposite of CBS today--lots of Armstrong and Grandstand tonight. However, we did get enough Ashe to hear Tracy say "Henin has given Safina no looks tonight". . . as Dinara breaks Justine.
I'm just loving Courier as a commentator. That story about the strings was exactly what I want to hear from an ex-player--information that no sports commentator would know and was interesting to me as a fan. Also, he did a great job of giving us some info on Wawrinka and not concentrating on the American on the court. Besides, even if Jim is in the middle of a story he stops talking to let the point happen.

I feel bad for Robredo and Gulbis-they are going to start late. I usually recognize most of the names in the top 100 for the men but Gulbis is a complete unknown to me. He's only 18 so good for him. Wawrinka looks kind of like Matthew Lawrence to me. www.wchstv.com/abc/boymeets/matthewlawrence.jpg
